Southwest Georgia Quail

Southwest Georgia Quail Classic

Bob Merkley, Dr. Jay McAfee, Garth Becker & Dave Scott

Albany (All Benny), Georgia, the bobwhite capital of America, is the home of the annual Southwest Georgia Classic each winter.  President, Bob Merkley and supporters, Garth Becker and Dave Scott made the trek this past January.  Southern Hospitality was served up in spades and the crew enjoyed tremendous classic wingshooting on 3 traditional plantations in the Albany area.  After a welcoming social featuring an oyster bar and fried quail, the crew were off on day one to Tallawahee Plantation, an old Seminole Indian word for “Place of Quail”.  The crew was pulled around in a classic wagon ride through the Georgia Pines.

Bird Buggy at Whispering Pine Plantation

After an evening social/smoker and more great southern food and hospitality, the crew spent day 2 on Luke Bryan’s Whispering Pine Plantation.  Here the crew was treated to following English pointers and Tennessee Walkers in a Bird Buggy – a luxury custom built hunting rig on a suburban chassis.
