Bob Gruszecki welcomes attendees to the Youth/Novice Shoot Day held on Provincial Hunting Day

On Saturday, September 28th, also known as Provincial Hunting Day, Alberta Hunter Education Instructor’s Association (AHEIA) and Pheasants Forever Calgary (PFC) hosted the 18th Annual Pheasants Forever Youth / Novice Fall Shoot.  Since 2007, the 4th Saturday in September has been designated Provincial Hunting Day in Alberta by the Provincial Government in an effort to improve Albertans’ quality of life. Activities are held throughout the Province, with an emphasis on learning safe, responsible hunting practices through education and mentorship.

Through this event, AHEIA and PFC provide another great event where beginner shooters get a chance for an introduction into the shotgun sports. Participants get exposure to the fundamentals of hunting with and without dogs, archery, techniques for hunting upland birds such as pheasants, waterfowl hunting, game and waterfowl calling and much more.

Mother nature provided a blast of winter that kept the participation level to about 100 first timers, all of whom went home having learned a lot.  A big thanks to all of the volunteers that helped execute this excellent day of outdoor activities.
